What Are the Most Common Types of Finishes You Use?

We use Hardwoods in our furniture very intentionally. These wood species are naturally more resistant to the normal wear and tear that dining tables and other furniture will experience. This means that the wood we use is already scratch and dent resistant and we strive to use additional protective finishes that will highlight and maintain the natural beauty and durability of the wood. Below are our most popular finish types.

  • Rubio Monocoat (Hardwax Oil)

    • Rubio Monocoat is a revolutionary wood finish that colors and protects wood in one single layer. Importantly, it is plant-based and contains 0% VOC (Note: “Volatile Organic Compounds” include a variety of gasses/chemicals, many of which are known to be toxic and may cause short- and long-term adverse health effects to those exposed. Common sources of VOC’s are paints, paint strippers and other solvents, aerosol sprays, cleaners/disinfectants, as well as many other  traditional forms of wood preservatives/protectants). Rubio Monocoat works by forming a molecular bond with the topmost fibers of the wood. This results in a durable, water-resistant finish, all while keeping the natural look and feel of the wood. Rubio Monocoat offers 50+ colors, which can be used on both hardwoods and softwoods!

    • Most of our hardwoods receive Rubio Monocoat

  • Polyurethane

    • Water-Based

      • General Finishes High Performance Water Based Topcoat

      • “Winner of Fine Woodworking's "Best Overall Choice Award", High Performance Topcoat was voted as the hardest, most durable consumer polyurethane topcoat.

      • When a crystal clear and smooth final coat is desired, this is our go to product. It contains a UV stabilizer to protect it from breaking down in sunlight and to protect any underlying wood stain/coloring from fading.

    • Oil-Based

      • General Finishes Arm-R-Seal Oil-Based Topcoat

        • Arm-R-Seal Oil-Based Topcoats are made with the highest-quality urethane resin, making them extremely durable and long-lasting. This ambering finish penetrates to provide deep-down protection while maintaining a "natural" look.
